ACADEMIC ADVISOR, COUNSELOR, TEACHER

What church do you attend?
FBC Allen

What are your hobbies?
Reading and traveling

What is your educational background?
BA in English and Psych at Texas A&M, MSW at UT Arlington, and English Grad Certificate at Texas A&M Commerce

What is your experience?
Working in education and/ or counseling since 1999 and at CCA since 2008

How did God call you to Christian education and how does that impact how you serve at CCA?
I was a parent at CCA and began as a long term sub for English and history in 4th grade. I loved it, but at the time 4th grade was a self contained class, and I didn’t feel comfortable teaching math, and I was not a fan of the curriculum they were using. I prayed for an opportunity to open up because I had loved the experience so much, and at the end of the year the administration decided to reorganize upper elementary to more subject specific teachers and changed curriculum. I was asked to take on 4th and 5th grade English and history, and I had an amazing team of math and science coteachers that were opposite me. It was definitely a call from God that was out of my comfort zone, but I am so thankful I trusted him and found a passion for teaching and connecting with students and helping them grow academically and spiritually. Nine years later when a similar “out of my comfort zone” opportunity to move to high school happened, I was able to trust God and take on this new endeavor. He again was faithful in equipping me for the challenge he set before me, and working with high schoolers at CCA has been such an amazing blessing in my life.

What church do you attend?
Stonebriar Community Church

What are your hobbies?
I enjoy baking for fun, running my baking business, and also cooking for my family. We love serving in our church and work with the young adults ministry at Stonebriar. My husband and I find joy in working in our garden and teaching our kids sustainable life skills for today as well as from years past like making our own bread, candles, and household products. When opportunities arise, I love teaching dance and creating choreography.

How did God call you to Christian education and how does that impact how you serve at CCA?
The University and Discipleship Model that CCA uses for students is a wonderful blessing for our family. It is a treasure to be able to be at the same school as my children and be the hands and feet of Jesus to our staff and students in the school nurse role.

Jonathan dowell

Registrar, SIS Administrator

What church do you attend?
St. Peters McKinney

What are your hobbies?
Music, reading, puzzles, cooking, languages

What is your educational background?
Centre College of Kentucky (BA-English, BA Religious Studies), Athens State University (BS Ed.), University of Alabama School of Special Education (Masters work in Gifted & Talented Education)

What is your experience?
After working within the Royal School of Church Music beginning in 1982, I turned to public education in Special Education – Gifted & Talented in 1992. Due to major cutbacks in my state’s education system, I moved to Texas in 2001 to do general classroom teaching. I came to CCA in 2008 to teach Secondary Maths, and then became Registrar for the school in 2021

How did God call you to Christian education and how does that impact how you serve at CCA?
I received a calling in Educational Ministry in 1981, which I thought meant becoming a school Chaplain. It took a turn a few years later when I became a consultant for a GT Magnet school, which led me into teaching those who think differently.  To me, whatever form of education I do will be Christian because I am Christian; most public schools are not as oppressive as people think. However, public schools are poor, and I reached a point where there were more teachers than jobs in public education, and just when I needed a new job CCA needed someone who could teach Jr. High & High School Mathematics. This led to teaching other things as well, and ultimately the position of Registrar here.

How did God call you to Christian education and how does that impact how you serve at CCA?
From an early age, I felt a strong calling to teach, starting with teaching dance at the age of 15. This passion for education has been a consistent thread throughout my life, and God has continually guided me in this direction. My journey took me to Africa, where I had the privilege of teaching local students and sharing the gospel in the classroom. This experience deepened my commitment to Christian education and solidified my belief in its transformative power.

At CCA, this calling shapes every aspect of how I serve. I strive to create an environment where students not only excel academically but also grow spiritually. By integrating faith into my teaching, I aim to inspire students to develop a personal relationship with God, equipping them to make a positive impact in the world. My goal is to nurture their minds and hearts, fostering a love for learning and a strong foundation in Christ.

How did God call you to Christian education and how does that impact how you serve at CCA?
I knew in college that the Lord had a plan for me to serve Him in whatever capacity He saw fit. I’ve worked in both churches and in secular jobs. My heart has always been to serve. When I had children both my husband and I knew that the Lord wanted me to serve where they were and opened up doors for that to happen. When I learned about CCA I spent two years talking to God about this opportunity. In those two years, the Lord gave compelte peace to my entire family and myself that this was my next step. CCA is where the Lord has me! Over the past 10 years, I have had the opportunity to serve Him while serving our families. Whether that is through admissions or through Community Life. I am grateful to have the opportunity to be a small part of the big picture here at CCA.

How did God call you to Christian education and how does that impact how you serve at CCA?
My parents worked in public education for over 30 years and when they retired they began to work at a Trinity Christian in Paris, TX. I listened to them talk about how you can be open at school with professing your faith in Christ and sharing it with others. The last few years listening to them and praying about it I believe God has led me to working in a Christian education setting. While coaching I have led groups through FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) I look to use my experience to be an example to our students through professing my faith, sharing my testimony, listening to others, praying with our students and staff, and being a servant leader in our school.

Over the next 30 years, I moved around the Midwest from Wisconsin to Minnesota and back to Wisconsin, teaching, serving as a coach and athletic director, principal, superintendent, and head of school throughout my time. My move to Texas was prompted by a desire to follow a nudge from God to try a new adventure in a new place.

How did God call you to Christian education and how does that impact how you serve at CCA?
God called me to Christian education as a teenager. I was encouraged by my high school teachers and especially my jr. high mentor to follow this path. As I began my career, I had aspirations to get into administration. My then superintendent affirmed that call, and I enrolled in a professional development institute through Christian Schools International. From there I pursued my master’s degree. I have followed leadership and recently completed the Van Lunen Fellowship. Servant leadership has become a passion of mine. I want to take those principles and empower my teams at CCA to put their faith into practice in whatever area they serve. I love working with my teams at CCA!

I always felt that teaching learning disabled and special needs students it was my mission to be their advocate and to share God’s love with them the best I could in public school. How did God call you to Christian education and how does that impact how you serve at CCA?
As a family we felt led to bring our kids to CCA. The public school system was going in a direction that we felt like we did not want to be part of. A few months after registration, I was about to be laid off from my job. There was a job opportunity at CCA right before school started and I applied and God worked the rest out. It has been such a blessing to be able to work at my boys school.
